Riviera Dogs (80's 90's tribute band)

The Gateway, Seaton

Now the 80s and 90s were responsible for some truly awful stuff. Neon. Shoulder pads. Mullets. Despite the questionable fashion choices and horrendous hair you have to admit that were some great tunes and memorable movies.

Riviera Dogs are a 5 piece band based in South West England delivering a polished set of quality music from the decades that taste forgot.

They have all performed in some of the most popular and longest running bands in the area but wanted to do something different; to play the music that we loved in our teens, to tackle some more difficult stuff and to have a good time. Not the easy ones, not the obvious ones, but the ones that will make you go “oh, I remember this….” and will probably lead to gyrating of the trousers and possibly full blown ‘bug dancing’.

They pride themselves on delivering a wide range of material which showcases our musicianship and whether you come to a public gig or hire us for your event we promise you an evening you won’t forget…… and no Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

“Fabulous Entertainment… Fabulous Band”- Ellie Hudson, Plymouth Herald

Seaton Eats Boutique

Jubilee Gardens, Seaton Devon

Drink in the views and soak up the beach, nourish your friendships and taste the world.

Now in its 3rd year Seaton Eats Boutique has become a firm favourite in the community calendar. It offers you top quality, freshly cooked global street food whilst you enjoy Seaton’s views of the Jurassic coast. The market takes place during the evening of the first Friday of the summer months, May – September. Each event invites different vendors so no two markets are the same. Locally reared pork, the infamous Persian chicken wrap, Japanese street food, patisserie desserts, local ales and prosecco cocktails – find them at Seaton Eats Boutique 2017.

Last year’s events were a hit with locals and visitors alike. Come and see what all the talk was about. Everyone is welcome (except dogs – the aromas are just too good to ignore) and there is access for those on wheels, chairs for those who creak, and grass if you like a picnic rug. Perhaps you prefer a quieter spot somewhere along Seaton’s mile long stretch of pebble beach.

The Distinctiveness of Devon an illustrated talk by Dr Todd Gray MBE

The Gateway, Seaton

THE DISTINCTIVENESS OF DEVON  – an illustrated lecture to be presented by Dr Todd Gray MBE,

President of the Devonshire Association.

This lecture is in connection with Dr Todd Gray’s ‘Walk with Talk’ journey across Devon from 12th to 22nd May 2017 marking the end of his Presidential Year.

Starting from Lyme Regis, he will begin at the southeast corner of Devon, near Devonshire Head, and continue along the Coast Path and through the Under-cliff to Seaton.

His plan is to reach Hartland, in Devon’s northwest corner, 11 day’s later.  Along the way Todd aims to promote interest in both the Devonshire Association and the history of Devon through lectures at the end of each day’s stage – the first of which will be in Seaton.

The Devonshire Association is a non profit making charitable body formed in 1862 and dedicated to the study and appreciation of all things Devonian.

It is the only society concerned with every aspect of the county and is one of the oldest of its kind in Britain.  With some 1300 members and a network of sixteen local Branches and Specialist Sections the association organises more than 100 activities and events, from talks and symposia to field trips and concerts, each year throughout the county.

There is an annual conference in a different town each year and a President’s Symposium on a subject of his or her choice.

There is a website at www.devonassoc.org.uk and the Registrar can be contacted by telephone (01392 860456) or email (devonshireassoc@btconnect.com).

Collateral Beauty (Film Night)

The Gateway, Seaton

When a successful New York advertising executive suffers a great tragedy he retreats from life.
While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe
by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. But it’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses
that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest
loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.

“The fabulous cast snaps together so neatly, produces a film that isn’t afraid to take its time to wax poetic
with its philosophical musings.” …….. Daily Express

“Collateral Beauty is one of those movies about learning to take the good with the bad – excellent.”
…….. The Guardian

“This movie has sense of style as well as a sense of metaphor, a sense of abstraction, of the conjuring of
life and the realization of solid ground through perfectly chosen touches.
That’s why, when great films succeed, they do so mightily.” …….. The New Yorker

Starring Will Smith, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Naomie Harris, Keira Knightley.

Doors open 6.30pm and you can bring food for your table, if you simply want to
