Learn to Sew a Granny Square

Coastal Craft Collective, Seaton Devon

In this two and a half hour class, you’ll learn how to create a classic granny square; this classic piece can be used in a number of ways.

You will also be shown how to read a simple crochet pattern, how to finish a square and how to connect squares to create larger projects.

You will need a 4mm or 5mm crochet hook, yarn will be provided for your use as well as tea/coffee.

Skills needed: The basic crochet stitches of making a chain, double crochet and a treble.

AVDCS Working Party

Axe Vale & district Conservation Society

Working party with the National Trust at Goat Island, the undercliffs, Seaton. Scrub clearance.  Meet at the top of Stepps Lane in Axmouth  (SY266903) at 10am. The working day will finish at approximately 4pm.

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring a packed lunch. Working parties at the Undercliffs often involve long walks to remote locations where walking can be strenuous and the ground uneven, so sturdy walking boots are a must as is physical fitness. Please declare any medical conditions to the group organiser on arrival.

Children's Beach Craft Workshop


Leader: Cara Jenkins-Bullmore, Forest & Beach Schools Practitioner

Suitable for unaccompanied children age 6+. Parents are welcome to stay if they wish.

Let your imagination go beach wild and create your own work of art from the seaside.

In this two-hour workshop you will:

  • Go to the beach for fun and foraging
  • Keep warm while you scavenge
  • Return to cosy up and create
  • Leave with your unique beachcraft.

It is important to dress for outdoors.  We will mostly be using natural resources found on the beach.
