With three dynamic aquatic environments – the sea, the river and the estuary – Seaton is a superb spot for paddlers of all persuasions. On calm days the protected parts of Lyme Bay are suitable for relative beginners on sit-on-top paddlecraft*, but the waterscape changes with every turn of the tide here, and can provide challenging and exciting conditions even for experienced kayakers and canoeists.
The excellent Axe Vale Canoe Club is located by the Sailing Club and harbour, at the mouth of the River Axe. The friendly club offers a full range of instruction in canoes and kayaks, leading to BCU-recognised qualifications, and conducts numerous trips all year round – including touring, white water and sea- paddling excursions. New members are welcome, and annually they stage the popular River Axe Race.
*Always paddle well within your comfort and skill zone, stay close to shore if inexperienced and wear appropriate safety gear (including a PFD/life jacket).
