Every Saturday morning Seaton’s seafront is taken over by the Seaton Parkrun. Part of a nation-wide movement, Parkruns are well-organised, timed runs which are totally free to join, open to any age or ability, non-competitive and aimed at getting more people outside running in the fresh air. You don’t have to qualify, apply or be part of a team; you just register your details online before you go, print out a barcode which the volunteers will scan, and then all you have to do is do your best!
With barcodes scanned at the beginning and the end, the events are timed, but this is just for your own benefit, so that you can set yourself a target, beat a personal best etc, or you can ignore the times completely and just join in for fun.
There is a great atmosphere, with runners of all ages and abilities, and the volunteers will help you with any questions or problems you may have.
The runs start every Saturday morning at 9am, meeting at Seaton Esplanade, and the course is 5km. It is a very straight-forward route back & forth along the seafront, with a tricky little stretch on the pebbles, which is hard work. There is always a good number of runners, and many people have made friends through the run and the after-run coffee stop. Lots of people meet afterwards for a coffee in Pebbles, Marine Parade, and the atmosphere is very welcoming, friendly and there is absolutely no pressure to be a fantastic runner or super-fit, just get out there and enjoy it!
