Seaton is the Home of year-round adventure and offers outdoor-active people an astonishing wealth of opportunities, pursuits and terrain to explore.
It really has something for everyone wanting to get out and active in beautiful surroundings. The Town is a natural play ground for Water Sports fans. Walkers and cyclists have plenty of trails to explore and families will find much for them including a swimming pool, a brand new gym, new orienteering trail, walks around the Seaton Wetlands, Stand up Paddleboarding from the beachside and plenty more.
Seaton Cycle Fest
After a successful first year in 2016, the Seaton CycleFest has gone from strength to strength. Seaton Town Council is pleased to confirm this year’s annual CycleFest event will take place on Sunday 7th July 2019. Last year the event was even bigger and better with two events spread across a whole weekend, starting with the Velo Vintage Cycle procession on the Saturday followed by the professional racing on the Sunday where the region’s best riders took part in a series of thrilling criterium races in front of thousands of enthralled spectators.
This year, the two events will run on separate occasions, allowing for maximum attendance at both events. The Vintage Cycle Day is scheduled for Saturday 22nd June 2019, where Seaton will see the return of over 100 vintage cyclists descending upon Seaton with #VeloVintage www.velovintage.co.uk.
Sunday 7th July will welcome British Cycling back to Seaton with the town centre turning into a race course and featuring some of the greatest cyclists in the South West.
Please watch this space for further updates on both events.
See CycleFest website for the 2018 results and this year’s race details.
Playground for Watersports Fans
With a broad beachfront stretching between the mouth of the River Axe and the dramatic cliffs of Beer Head, Seaton is natural playground for watersports fans including kayakers, canoeists, stand-up paddleboarders, swimmers, snorkelers, anglers and sailing enthusiasts.
Try Stand up Paddle Boarding or kayaking from the beach front at Fisherman’s Gap (see www.sbwatersports.co.uk); join one of the canoe safaris offered by the Canoe Club and EDDC Rangers – see their website for details; or visit our yacht club with it’s lovely setting and range of events and activities. Check the conditions before you arrive on their webcam
Spoilt for Choice
Cyclists, walkers and runners also enjoy the myriad trails that hug the coast including the South West Coastal Path which offers sensational sea views, but they’re spoilt for choice inland too. Quiet, curvaceous country roads provide elevation and inspiration for road riders and runners, while mountain bikers and trail runners love exploring the vast network of bridleways and paths that wind through the surrounding woodlands, meadows and hills.
Seaton hosted its first CycleFest in June 2016 in association with British Cycling and 1st Chard Wheelers. The Festival, which will be an annual event, includes the Seaton Crit, hailed as “one of the best in the South West”. Registrations will be announced on the CycleFest website
Seaton is a Four-Season Adventure Hub
The town boasts several active clubs catering for pursuits including running, cycling, paddlesports and swimming. Local enthusiasts form the backbone of these organised groups, but throughout the year – during weekends and on various nights of the week – people flock to the town from neighbouring areas to attend group sessions in all of these sports and more.
There are plenty of opportunities for visitors and holidaymakers to get involved, with club members happy to impart local knowledge and several companies now hiring outdoor equipment and offering guided trips.
All Sports Well Catered For
Other sports are also well catered for. The town has impressive football, tennis and cricket facilities, plus a swimming pool, skate park, outdoor gym and martial arts centre. There is also a state-of-the-art indoor gym in the town centre, check the LED website for more details on this and opening times by clicking here.
